Vices and addictions / Vicios y adicciones

In the previous issue we took on the myths resembling the vast constructions of the spirit that are the foundation of culture. In the present volume, dedicated to addictions, we approach a problem somewhat related to this subject. Indeed, before the question, “What does the soul want?” James Hillman responds, “Fictions that cure.” Evidently, such response escapes the medical environment it would seem to belong to—necessarily introducing the ample terrain of the criticism of knowledge. Conscious of the polemic character of this affi rmation, we have published an interview in which Hillman (one of the most outstanding exponents in contemporary psychology) thrives over the relationships between imagination and culture. We also offer a set of texts that, from poetic, fi ctitious or essaylike perspectives, explore the spectrum of the dialogue between addiction and creation; pathology and imagination.

This issue is headed by José Blanco's article appropriate to the imminent election that will take place in the United States. In this context the next president will have to answer the inevitable questions presented by the crisis that ails society. / En la edición pasada nos ocupamos de los mitos como aquellas vastas construcciones del espíritu que dan fundamento a una cultura. En el presente número, dedicado a las adicciones, abordamos un problema relacionado, de algún modo, con el mismo tema. En efecto, ante la pregunta: “¿Qué quiere el alma?”, James Hillman responde: “Ficciones que curen”. Evidentemente, dicha respuesta rebasa el ámbito médico en el que se inscribe para insertarse, necesariamente, en el amplio terreno de la crítica del saber. Conscientes del carácter polémico de esta afirmación publicamos una entrevista en donde Hillman (uno de los exponentes más destacados de la psicología contemporánea) abunda sobre las relaciones entre imaginación y cultura. Asimismo, ofrecemos un conjunto de textos que, desde las perspectivas de la poesía, el relato de ficción o el ensayo exploran el espectro de un posible diálogo entre adicción y creación, patología e imaginación.

Encabeza nuestra edición un artículo de José Blanco a propósito de las elecciones inminentes en los Estados Unidos, en un contexto en que el próximo presidente habrá de dar respuesta a muchas de las interrogantes impostergables planteadas por la crisis que atraviesa la sociedad norteamericana.
