Revolutions in Arabic / Revoluciones en arabe
The tremendous commotion in the Middle East has given rise to what some specialists call “post-Islamism”. They say it is a period in the history of the Northern African states that will affect the rest of the Islamic world as well as the global system in which we live. One of the deciding factors of this “revolution” is the new social media which suddenly made real the unknown demands for liberty in that region of the world. Literal: Latin American Voices offers three new approaches to this new reality from the perspectives of Muhsin al-Musawi, Ahdaf Soueif and Rogelio García-Contreras. These three experts are accompanied by an eminence in the world of international politics: Joseph Nye Jr.
This issue also presents a modest tribute to Gonzalo Rojas, an essential figure in the Hispanic-American literature who passed away in April. We offer an unpublished poem by the Chilean poet as well as an evocation by our friend Adolfo Castañón.. / La profunda conmoción del mundo árabe en nuestros días ha dado inicio a lo que algunos especialistas llaman ya el “postislamismo”. Se trata, opinan, de una etapa en la historia de países del norte de África que terminará afectando al mundo musulmán en general y, desde luego, al sistema global en el que vivimos. Uno de los elementos determinantes de esta “revolución” son las redes sociales, los social media que de manera súbita dieron realidad a los reclamos de libertad de una sociedad civil hasta ahora inédita en esta región. Literal. Latin American Voices ofrece tres acercamientos a esta nueva realidad desde la óptica de Muhsin al-Musawi, Ahdaf Soueif y Rogelio García-Contreras. Tres expertos a los que acompaña una de las eminencias en materia de política internacional: Joseph Nye Jr.
Nuestra edición ofrece asimismo un modesto homenaje a Gonzalo Rojas, figura insustituible de la literatura hispanoamericana fallecido el pasado mes de abril. Del poeta chileno publicamos un poema inédito junto con textos in memoriam de nuestro amigo Adolfo Castañón.
